First There's Advent, Then Christmas!

Advent wreath with four candles, one for each week of Advent

Advent is a four-week season observed in many Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the arrival of the Messiah. This year, 2019, Advent begins on Sunday, December 1st!

As we take the month of December to reflect on the gifts we have and will receive, we remember that the greatest gift God has given us was his son, Jesus Christ. We would like to share with you some thoughtful ways you and your loved ones can celebrate the season with the calendar below.

We wish you a joyous Advent, and holiday season! May God's blessings be bountiful, and may we continue to be thankful and filled with peace during this month and every one after.

A Celebration of Life, Love, and Service to God and Our Community

On Saturday morning, October 12, the breeze was chilly outside of the Morgan's Wonderland Event Center - but inside, the atmosphere was one of loving warmth. The room was filled with friends, family, students, and community members all gathered together for a common purpose: To celebrate three very special women whose contributions to Blessed Sacrament Academy have been changing lives for decades.

The video below, produced by Jose Lozano of Magic Spoon Productions, shows just a glimpse of the history and impact of our honorees throughout the years of dedication to BSA.

Funds raised for this celebration exceeded those of any other single event in BSA history. Contributions from our community will help us to serve so many children and families, and we are so very grateful to each of our donors and to the women who have inspired these gifts.

During the celebration, announcements were made regarding two special and generous donations. Gordon and Maggie Hartman of Morgan's Wonderland announced a very generous donation in addition to their gracious hosting of the event, and the Texas Cavaliers donated a gift of $20,000 for a playground renovation at the BSA Child Development Center.

CDC seeks NAEYC accreditation

When Child Development Center Director Carol Silva chose to seek accreditation for the Center through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), she knew she was adding more to a full plate of responsibilities. "Already Texas Rising Star Provider Certified, our whole team understands the accreditation process is very thorough and takes a real investment in time, resources and funds,” Silva said, “Looking to the future, we want to be able to serve more children while keeping or improving the quality of our programs. Accreditation can also put us in a position to acquire more funding in the form of grants, or as a part of a larger community PreK effort.NAEYC represents the mark of quality in early childhood education and is dedicated to improving early childhood education offering a voluntary accreditation process for high-quality programs. The financial cost of participating in the system—starting with the NAEYC fees, the cost of required consultants, expenses for improvements—can add up. “The CDC is fortunate to be partnering with Texas Workforce Commission in this process. They provide coaching and mentoring from members of the Family Service Association staff, and also help with fees and equipment necessary during the accreditation period,” explains Silva.stem class (250x183)Silva and the entire staff must work together as a team and make a professional commitment to manage a four step process which includes meeting the 10 standards considered benchmarks of NAEYC accreditation.  These standards include promoting positive relationships for all children and adults and implementing a curriculum that fosters all areas of child development.  Read more about the accreditation process.reading a story (400x232)Silva concludes by saying, “We invite our parents/guardians to learn more and join us in the accreditation process.
