Child Development Center announces grant

The BSA Child Development Center is pleased to announce a $50,000 grant from Valero Energy And Golf San Antonio. The IWC ministry subsidy fund helped BSA leverage this grant. Thanks to all of you,

At Blessed Sacrament Academy Child Development Center we are excited to feel cooler weather come our way for all children to enjoy their play time outdoors. Our summer program ended the last week of August. We had a great summer with many school age children. The children attended many fun field trips to the Library, museums and delicious places to eat, parks, the zoo and some outdoor sports and their favorite was attending swimming twice a week.

Our younger children also enjoyed some splash days outdoors under our sprinkler system and some wading pools. Since summer is gradually leaving us we are transitioning children to new classrooms as they age developmentally to a new more age appropriate environment.

As fall approaches our older children leave to begin a new journey at their new schools. Our enrollment does drop for a period of time but, gradually it begins to climb up with new children. We have recently enrolled our program in a Kinder Readiness curriculum for our pre-school classrooms. The goal of this program is to help children build a strong foundation for future social and academic success. The curriculum called “Big Day at Pre-K” is a compressive and engaging curriculum that ensures that every day is a big day for young learners. It will consist of a self-study to follow children academically through third grade. BSA will receive materials for the classroom and for the children, as well as a degreed teacher, in conjunction with Higgs, Carter, King Gifted and Talented Charter Academy.

Since it is important for the staff of BSA to also continue their education, we held a Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, in August, to help raise money for teacher training for all staff. We are currently in our third session; I have received lots of great feedback from all teaching staff. This is for everyone to improve themselves and learn different techniques on how to care for children emotionally and developmentally.

For the coming months we will focus on Child Safety Month and helping other organizations like St. Jude Children’s hospital to help better a child’s life. We hope to increase our enrollment in the coming weeks. We are currently passing out flyers for the after-school program hoping to increase our enrollment. BSA thanks God for watching over us and all the Sisters of Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament for their support.
