Alumna leaves bequest

On a very special day last Spring, five nieces of recently deceased Mary Pauline (Polly) Toudouze Fogel visited Blessed Sacrament Academy to fulfill their aunt’s wishes for the Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament.  It was fitting, that on what would have been Aunt Polly’s birthday, Patsy Toudouze, Kitty Toudouze, Loretta Zigmond, Jeanette Campbell and Melissa Toudouze presented a bequest from her will to the school from which she graduated in 1937.

Polly FogleFrom the many memories her nieces shared at the gathering, it is evident Polly was a loving and generous woman whose life was dedicated to service.  After graduating from Blessed Sacrament, she attended Robert B. Green School of Nursing and served with honors in the Army Nurse Corp during WWII, eventually retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1969.

Polly was known for always caring for others, donating her time and talent as well as treasures, to charities whose focus was helping children and families. The nieces agreed her life provided them with an excellent example of the way they should live their lives. Polly stayed in touch with many of her friends throughout her life including the nuns at Blessed Sacrament Academy. Her nieces acknowledged she often told them “If it weren’t for the nuns at Blessed Sacrament, I don’t know where I’d be today.”

Polly’s generous gift is earmarked for the Child Development Center. Her wishes were to help families whose children are attending the Center with program development and tuition. Before the group left they told the Sisters “Thank you for uplifting us spiritually and giving us the opportunity to brag about our very special aunt and pay tribute to her generosity and her willingness to give back.”

Founded by the Sisters of Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament in 1926, the programs at Blessed Sacrament Academy have evolved to meet the current needs of a vulnerable community.
